How to Install macOS Big Sur on AMD Ryzen System

Since macOS Big Sur released everyone has the interest to install on their PCs. Such installing macOS Big Sur on there primary Macs and MacBooks. This year macOS Big Sur nominated one of the biggest releases of Apple Inc, and Apple called the macOS Big Sur “11.0” after macOS Catalina 10.15. macOS Big Sur with new redesigned features make your experience complete.

However, macOS Big Sur 11 is the first Apple operating system that can support the upcoming Apple Arm-Based Processors Macs and MacBooks. As the Intel Arm-based processor machines are old devices developed by Apple. But again during the WWDC 2020, Apple introduced the upcoming Intel PCs.

Since the biggest operating system released most of the users upgraded their macOS operating systems to macOS Big Sur. But some of the only tested on VMware and VirtualBox, because of its beta version. Fortunately, Apple kicked out the Public Beta now, and it’s available on the App Store. Directly without any issues, you can upgrade your macOS Catalina from the Mac App Store. Also, there is no needed to enroll with the Apple Developer program website.

Installing macOS Big Sur or upgrading our macOS operating system is pretty interesting. But installing it on different PC platforms is a bit tricky. In fact, most of the users requested from us to explain the ways of installing macOS Big Sur on AMD Ryzen.

Usually, the previous macOS operating system didn’t support AMD processors whether that should be “AMD Radeon or Ryzen”. But in the era of macOS Big Sur who are having AMD Radeon or AMD Ryzen, easily can install macOS Big Sur on that. So, the process a bit complicated follow the below guide to do not make any mistake.

Install macOS Big Sur on AMD Ryzen System – Hackintosh

To begin this process first of all you need a macOS Big Sur installer file. Which you can download it from Mac App Store, or through from Apple developer website. For installing macOS Big Sur on AMD Ryzen you need to following required files.

  1. Download Commands
  2. Download EFI file
  3. Download OpenCore Configurator
  4. Download macOS Big Sur installer file
  5. 16GB USB Drive

Step 1. Create macOS Big Sur Installer USB

There is a different process for creating macOS Big Sur Installer USB Drive. If you are a Windows PC user, so download the above installer file and follow our process to create the installer file. If you want to create an installer USB drive on your primary make then follow the below guide.

  1. Attach the USB flash drive to your Mac computer, then navigate to the top menu bar and click on the “Go” option and select Utilities.
  2. While the Utilities window opened double-click on Disk Utility to open.

3. Select the USB drive from the list of appeared devices, then click on the “Erase” option. And erase the USB drive according to the below options.

  1. Name: USB (Optional)
  2. Format: Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)
  3. Scheme: GUID Partition Map

When the USB drive formatted ahead over to search spotlight, type terminal, and press enter to open the terminal. When the terminal opened copy and paste the below code in the terminal. Enter your password and press enter, to confirm type “Y” and press enter. Wait until the process of creating the installer USB drive should be completed.

Step 2. Mount the Partition

Once the USB installer drive created, open the OpenCore Configurator to mount the EFI partition of your USB flash drive. To mount the partition click on mount partition option, then enter your password and press OK. Once the partition mounted to your desktop close the OpenCore Configurator.

Now copy the EFI folder, and paste into the EFI partition of USB flash drive.

  • Also, for making your job easy for the installation copy and paste the OpenCore Configurator alongside the macOS Big Sur Installer file.

Step 3. Edit BIOS Settings

For installing macOS Big Sur on AMD Ryzen or even PC-Hackintosh you need to bring some changes into the BIOS of your PC. So, when everything prepared for the installation, restart your PC, then enter the delete key to enter the BIOS window.

Once the BIOS window appeared to, navigate to the Exit tab, select the “Load UEFI Defaults” tab press enter and select Yes.

Select Save Changes and Exit tab, press enter, and select Yes. When you made changes automatically your computer will restart.

Once your PC restarted again press the delete key to enter the BIOS window. And change the BIOS settings according to the below screenshot. When you made changes navigate to the Exit tab, and save changes and exit the BIOS.

Step 4. Install macOS Big Sur on AMD Ryzen System

Once the macOS Big Sur installer USB flash drive created, and you have copied the EFI file to the EFI partition of USB flash drive, then edited the BIOS settings. So, let’s have a clean installation of macOS Big Sur on AMD Ryzen.

To start the process attach the USB flash drive of macOS Big Sur press the Boot menu key, and Boot macOS Big Sur from the created installer drive.

Now select the drive where you want to boot macOS Big Sur from that and press enter.

When you reached this step, select “Disk Utility” and click the arrow option to continue.

When the disk utility window opened select the drive from the left hand which you want to format for macOS Big Sur installation. If the drive list isn’t appeared there click on the “View” option and click on “Show all devices”. And click on the “Erase” option, and format the disk according to the below options.

  1. Name: Macintosh HD (Optional)
  2. Format: APFS
  3. Scheme: GUID Partition Map

While the disk formatted close the disk utility and select “Install macOS” then click on continue option.

Now to set up macOS Big Sur installation click continue.

Agree with the terms and conditions of macOS Big Sur by click on Agree for two times.

Select the drive where you want to install macOS Big Sur on that.

Now the installation begins starts, wait until the installation should be completed. When the installation completed automatically your PC will restart.

When your PC restarted again wait here for this portion too.

When the installation completed your PC will restart, at the first window select your country and click continue.

Complete the rest of the settings for the first use, I didn’t take that important to provide you the screenshots. Because that’s easy everyone can do that.

And macOS Big Sur successfully installed on AMD Ryzen system, go ahead and enjoy using macOS Big Sur 11 features for the first time on AMD system. It’s last but not list, the only thing that has remaining is only the EFI file drivers.

Step 6. Install macOS Big Sur Drivers

  1. Open the OpenCore Configurator, then mount the EFI partition of USB flash drive and the system drive.
  2. Copy the EFI folder from the EFI partition of USB flash drive, and paste it into the partition of the system drive.
