Apple wanted to kick out macOS Big Sur with the version of 10.16. But after the schedule changes, they released macOS Big Sur with 11.0 version.

macOS Big Sur is a redesigned operating system with a new UI interface look, Control Center, %50 Fastest Safari browser, Notification Center, Customizable Widgets, new Apps introduced with Mac Catalyst, Round Curved edges.

Still, macOS Big Sur is available in Beta version, you can get the Beta version from Apple Developer Program website. Alongside, Apple will release the Public Beta version in July 2020, and the final version will be available in your hand in September 2020. Moreover, if you are using macOS Mojave, macOS Catalina on your Mac then you can update it to macOS Big Sur 11 Beta version. Step #1. Install macOS Mojave on Virtual Machine

Before updating macOS Mojave to macOS Big Sur on Virtual Machine. Firstly, you need to perform a clean installation of macOS Mojave on VirtualBox and VMware Workstation. Virtualization is the best platform which complete the user experience in the era of testing the features of an operating system and its installation process.

Step #2. Download macOS Big Sur 11 Beta Version

After you have installed macOS Mojave on one of the Virtual Machine. For updating it macOS Big Sur you need to download the macOS Big Sur Beta version from Apple Developer Program website. Apple only allows the Developers to their website without any costs. But being enrolled with the Apple Developer program for the third person it will costs.

When you have downloaded macOS Big Sur 11 Assistant Package installed file. Move it to your macOS Mojave Virtual Machine, and install it.

  1. Double-click on “macOSBetaDeveloperAccessUtility” file to open.
  2. When it destination opened double-click on “macOSBetaDeveloperAccessUtility.pkg”.
  3. Click Continue on the introduction window.
  4. Agree with terms and conditions and click continue.
  5. Enter the username password and click install software.
  6. Wait for the installation
  7. Once the Package installed on macOS Mojave it will automatically search for macOS Big Sur 11 update.
  8. When the update appeared click on the “Upgrade Now” option.
  9. Wait for macOS Big Sur 11 until it should be downloaded, the download process will take some time. And the macOS Big Sur installer update file is more than 9GB.

Step #3. Update macOS Mojave to macOS Big Sur

Once the macOS Big Sur 11 update downloaded through Assistant Package installer. Automatically the installation window will pop-up. So, to set up the installation of macOS Beta, click continue.

Now you can’t select the disk where you have to install macOS Big Sur 11, for this check the below instructions.

Step #4. The operation couldn’t be completed “BIErrorDomain error 3.”

When you reached to the step of selecting the drive where you have to install macOS Big Sur. You will see that you won’t be able to select the disk. So, to fix this issue you can check the below links and screenshots.

To fix this issue completely power off the virtual machine. Then go to the macOS Mojave destination folder, find the macOS Mojave VMX file. Right-click on that and open with Notepad.

Once the macOS Mojave VMX file opened, copy and paste the below commands and press Ctrl+S to save changes.

Step #5. Continue Installation

Again power on the macOS Mojave virtual machine, open the installation. Select the disk, click install enter your password, and press “Add Helper”.

Wait until macOS Big Sur should be installed.

Once the macOS Big Sur installed, the virtual machine will restart. Wait for the next step of installation too, when macOS Big Sur installed enter your username password and press enter.
